DiscoverIt! is a free and small program which shows what Windows hides behind asterisks in password text boxes. Unfortunately current version does not work under Windows 2000. Next version will support Windows 2000.
Requirements:
ยท To run the program you need MFC run-time DLLs (mfc42.dll and msvcrt.dll). These DLLs are quite common, most probably you already have them.
