Tasker is intended to provide low-cost, easy-to-use automation. It’s ideal for personal use, or jobs that have low complexity. Tasker increases productivity via three main features: Recordings, Automatic Typing, and Scripting.
Recordings
The primary component of any automation program is Record & Playback. Press the blue button to start recording, and the green button to play back your actions. You can set the speed and repeats of the playback, and even compile Recordings into a standalone program. Best of all, Recordings work while you are using any application, so you can record a macro at any time.
Automatic Typing
Have Tasker automatically type your most frequent phrases. This feature is often referred to as “keyboard mapping” — you tell Tasker what the signal is, and it will automatically type long phrases, or start a program, or begin a new recording. This works while you are in any program, transparently.
Scripting
Recordings are very useful for one-time repetitive jobs, however it is necessary to re-record to make changes. Scripting allows you to create simple, text-based tasks which can be easily modified. Tasker provides an easy scripting capability, yet includes important features such as variables and relative mouse moves. Like Recordings, they can also be compiled into standalone programs, usually as small as 20k.
